Over 100 local residents packed into the Gujarat Hindu Centre tonight to listen to a presentation by the Environment Agency about a new flood warning system for the Broadgate area. There were also
contributions by the officer for Emergency Planning from Preston City Council, as well as Riversway Local Councillors Jack Davenport, Linda Crompton and Bhikhu Patel.
The presentation gave details on the different kinds of flooding, as well as what residents should do in the event of a flood. Resident interest was high with many questions raised and as pictures
show, residents really wanted to know about this very serious issue.
Speaking about the meeting, Labour Councillor Jack Davenport said 'I was totally amazed at the turnout. It shows that our emphasis on campaigning for a stronger flood policy at Preston Council is
in line with the wishes of local residents. The meeting was very informative and people were clearly interested all the way through it.'
The meeting came the same day flooding had been discussed at Preston Council. The Tories were challenged over their commitment to flooding, especially after recent floods in the city a few days
ago. Councillor Davenport made these comments 'It seems to me that the only reason we have action now is because rural areas have been hit and the Tories are out to protect their own. Too bad they
(the Tories and the Lib Dems) didn't listen to us six months ago when we first raised this issue; there has just been unnecessary delay that has cost people in Preston.'

6.30pm Wednesday 6th February
at the BAC Club, South Meadow Lane.
