Floating Homes for the Docks

Floating Homes

Ideas have been put forward for floating houses to be built on the Docks basin.  These appear to be suggestions as part of the Riverworks scheme.  Although the Tories appear to welcome the idea (without consultation), your Labour Councillors are very concerned about these proposals.

Housing was never mentioned as a major part of the Docks regeneration.  When it was suggested that there be work done on the Docks itself, this was always put in terms of leisure and community facilities (for example restaurants and bars).

Labour Councillors are concerned because of the past history of the Docks; building and construction being done with no forward thinking.  Suggesting housing in this fashion now does not strike us as being well planned.  We did consult residents about building on the Docks, but housing was never a major part of that as the ideas had not been mentioned at that time.  Your Labour Councillors would like to hear from you about this idea.

E-mail ribbleconsultation@tiscali.co.uk  and let us know what you think.
